Proposal
My concept overview is about the biggest –growing female basketball club, (adults and children) in Norfolk investigating how they came about, why they made a team, what inspired then to make a club and why they have become so successful. I intend to explore the differences between male and female participation in the sports industry; specifically looking at basketball as my main focus.

For primary research, I intend to interview a club coach, player and parent about their personal opinion on basketball. This can be the most suitable documentary project because it has lots of key evidence with different perspectives to intrigue the viewer. It is a less well-known sport but still has a good reputation and will interest viewers who might be considering starting a club or joining a sport, considering motivation, physical and mental health benefits.

It will be a documentary of special interest that also is educational and will be presented using an interactive format to discuss the concept but also it will be performative giving the viewer a visual understanding of the game. The documentary will be an observation, as I feel more prepared and comfortable as I have a visual of what I’m looking for.

My demographic target audience is primarily 10 – 18-year-old females which is biased but it can secondarily, be aimed at 18 years + and anyone including males who are interested in this information.

My aim is to promote female participation in sport as well as the basketball club; and to influence viewers to be active in the world of sport; to help them feel more confident and give the feeling that they can achieve in the same ways as men.
As I am doing basketball I will need a basketball court; the location of this female club is Open Academy which is accessible to all as it is in the middle of the county and is access by public transport as well as road links. I also will be filming at the coach’s house as this is a quiet environment and there is a blank white wall to prevent distractions.  I intend to interview and film the coach, player and parent here separately.

Also, as part of the production, I will need access to the basketball team with kit to create a professional looking footage. I will be needing a crew because I was planning to use mutable cameras in different angels to get a different effect to catch the viewer’s eyes. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to control all the cameras on the big court. If I have to, I will change the way I was planning to set up. I do want some experts in the basketball rules and how things are controlled to be interviewed as they have more information about the sport and lived earning and they are more skilful. I personally won’t be in the documentary but I want to use a voice over if needed when editing.

These are the types of questions I will be asking a coach, player and parent.
1.     How long have you played basketball?
2.     What made you play? what inspired you?
3.     What was the hardest thing that challenged you?
4.     Do you believe that woman like yourself have the same capability playing sports as well as men?

The only props and customs I need are the basketball kit that the club wears and I would like the young players to wear their club t-shirt, this show the audience that the club means business as they have their own kit it shouldn’t coast me anything.
When filming this documentary, I wouldn’t need a budget because all of the equipment is hired out for free and the props the club would provide e.g. basketball, cones, and hoops. The only equipment that I need is: two cameras, triploids, and a microphone.
